Our Nursery

July 26, 2013

Sheppard’s room was one obstacle after another. I had every tiny detail in order for a girl’s nursery, but a boy left me with so many options. Modern vs classic? Blues or something less obvious? We were in uncharted territory and I was forced to train my brain to straddle the fence that separated baby from feminine. We started with the crib and light fixture, and built the room around those elements. Joey surprised me while I was visiting my sister in New York and built the custom closet I had described to him while day dreaming about the room. Never in my wildest dreams did I think he could pull off something even remotely close to what he created. I married a man with so many hidden talents, and trust me, I have since put his newly discovered carpentry to use. My favorite part of the nursery are the tiny touches that make it personal and taylor made specifically for Shep: The cork map from his shower, the postcard drawn by my Father, & the Giraffe flown in from New York as a welcome home from my sister and brother in love. My advice to expectant mothers is to start early, find a few luxury pieces that you adore and can reuse in the future, and then get budget savvy with the rest. And of course most importantly, enjoy the process. It was such a beautiful time to dream of Sheppard and the time he would spend in that precious room.

I love this room! This is one of the beds I was looking at! Have you had any issues with keeping the upholstery clean?
