Dear Shep,
We are so ready for September to get here. August has been a no good, very bad month – at least the second half. Within the last week, we’ve locked my keys in the car (along with your car seat), I’ve gotten lost on a scavenger hunt to a dinner date with Daddy for our Anniversary, you have been to the ER once and Doctor’s office twice in 3 days, been to the Doctor’s house once, and stayed the night at Children’s Hospital for a surgery to run some tests. This poor house has never needed our upcoming beach vacation more than we do now. The good news is, you’re going to be just fine. Apart from your reflux, it looks like you have a mild case of something called laringomalasia aka: a softening of your larynx. Basically, you make a horribly scary wheezing noise periodically and will outgrow it all hopefully by your first birthday.
Every nurse at the hospital fell in love with you instantly. You flirted pretty heavy with the one who put your IV in (before the actual task of course) and cheesed for every doctor who put his cold stethoscope on your precious belly. We all lost a lot of sleep and watched a lot of Mickey Mouse, but finally made it back home and have made today all about napping and experimenting with new homemade baby foods. Update: today you loved an avacado…..until I blended some banana in and you gave me the shiver which can never be a good sign. Bath time with me meant your first face plant into the water (what? I said I’m sleep deprived didn’t I?) and you – in true diva fashion – acted like I made you swim the Pacific. Now after putting you to sleep, I hear you singing which only means one thing……Click save and come back in another 30 minutes after I’ve held your cozy little self and walked 30 laps in your nursery to assure myself that you are, in fact, sleeping – for real this time.
And done. You are so stupid cute when you smile at me as I am putting you to bed. It’s such a last ditch effort on your part to get to stay up just 5 minutes more and each time I come closer to caving than the day before. Don’t give up little man, you’re so close!
We are all so happy that you’re feeling well and back your old self again, and if you promise to go another few years without a visit to the ER, I’ll buy you a pony. Seriously.
Xx Mommy
