10 Month Update

December 18, 2013

Dear Shep: A mother's letters to her son

Dear Shep,

I can’t believe I have a 10 month old baby boy! We are brainstorming first birthday ideas and I can’t help but realize that everyone was right – time flies!

You are not only crawling now, but pulling up on anything and everything and demonstrating what I can only describe as some mad dance skills. You are kissing every single thing in this house, but still stingy with them when it comes to us mere humans who care for you daily. I’ve decided it’s because we never stop kissing you to give you the chance to kiss us in return. You helped me transform your room into a winter wonderland for Christmas and managed to keep the tree at a distance so far, much to my surprise. You’re eating everything in site and are especially loving Chick Fil A grilled nuggets and cheese. Mangos in squeeze packs are your favorite to eat alone like a big boy and you continue to turn down bananas, but dangit if I won’t keep trying. You’re holding crackers (Baby Mums) and baby cookies like a champ, and while I love watching you smack your food like such a cutie pie, all of your self feeding has me washing clothes and fighting stains left and right. You celebrated your first Thanksgiving, spent the night with us at Dece and Shep’s (that was a disaster I’ll tell you about some day when it’s less fresh on my mind…) and picked out your first real Christmas Tree with Daddy and me under the big striped tent. You still want to be in your sling everywhere we go and hate it when you have to touch grass, but you are the bravest little man when it comes to exploring this house NOT made for children and are tough as nails when you bop that precious little head – unless it’s nap time when you absolutely lose it. In other news, still no teeth. Your Aunt Jamieluv calls you “gummie bear” and unless you grow a few soon, I’m afraid it’s going to stick. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. You’re favorite time of day is still your baths with Daddy, and putting on pjs takes twice as long as before since you insist on crawling as I clothe you.

Thank you for another month of amazing memories and adventure. I adore each piece of your personality as you reveal them to me and can’t believe how much room there is in my heart for such a tiny little boy. I love you monkey man.

Mommy Xx
