River Flynn,
You are still my little quiet soul. Somehow you have managed to live in a household of craziness and rather than succumb to our terrible ways you’ve found a way to bring a little of your magic into our home. I can be running around after your brother who is standing on the dining room table, pouring water from a glass onto the floor, or pooping on a playroom chair (don’t ask kiddo) and I spot you and there is an instant peace. Don’t get me wrong, we were happy before you came along, but we were wild and crazy. You are our breath of fresh air when we need a reality check to the important things in life, and for that, we all thank you.
Month two has been wild. I’m still enjoying every moment of you I can handle and Sheppard continues to guard, protect, and love you with every ounce of his being. We have yet to see any animosity or jealousy and that is such a God thing for us. Another magical experience is how well you take his “loving” when he insists on scooping you up with my help and giving you his extra good snuggles which can sometimes be a bit less on the gentle side. It’s as if you know he adores you and you trust his little two year old hands with your life. You shouldn’t, but you do – and that”s pretty adorable. I’ve given up on sleeping in and I embrace my mornings with you. The house is quiet – apart from your Daddy’s snoring- and you and I spend some time in the crease of my bent legs just like I did with Shep when he was your age. I’ve gotten a few hints of a smile and look forward to the times when you coo and react to my voice with gummy grins.
As far as the boring stuff goes, you still wake up twice at night (no harm no foul, but let’s work on that one shall we?), have the nastiest cold there ever was (breaks my heart hearing you suffer), and are entirely too strong for your own good as such a young age. Every few mornings I tell your Daddy that you grew that night. He laughs in response but what he doesn’t realize is that I’m being honest. You grew! Overnight! It happens and don’t doubt me until you’ve had your own. Your tiny cheeks are filling out and those wrinkles that made you my little Benjamin Button (it’s a movie, look it up) are quickly fading and filling with pink fat. The blonde hair is coming in stronger and sometimes we see a hint of strawberry. Who knows if those eyes will remain blue, but the color isn’t what makes them so stunning. They glow. You are going to change lives. You will be such an impact on the world. Something in your spirit just screams it and I am so thankful for the challenge to raise you to meet that calling. Jesus really outdid himself with you kiddo.
Mommy Xx
