River Flynn,
Oh buddy, please sleep again?
My little champion sleeper went away and we can’t seem to find him. You still nap like the angel baby that you are, but man alive you are adiment on these night waking and we are going head to head in the battle of the boob. My stance? Make your Daddy go try and hush you back to sleep while the ladies and I take cover in the bedroom. I cave every night around 3 or 4 am and hopefully your 5 month update will be that you’re back to only one 5am feeding. If not, this will be what ages me. You will owe me three botox injections when you get your first job.
As far as the rest goes, you’re still amazing as always. Your favorite things to do while awake are your turtle gym mat, sitting in your baby bjorn bouncer watching the madness that is Shep, and resting in Daddy’s lap while he watches The Brady Bunch during Shep’s nap. You are definitely making yourself known a little more these days and showing that you are a fan of being held and snuggles, but we are completely okay with that and give you exactly what you want 99% of the time. Shep is still so in love with you and now spends his days giving you “tickle tickle”s which to my pleasant surprise will set you into a giggly grin despite the mood you are in. Just today at the bank you were fussing and one little hello from Shep had you grinning from ear to ear. As far as your little round head goes, still no hair. I’ve noticed a bit more peach fuzz coming in and it’s continuing to look blonde, but we will wait and see how my little chia pet grows and see if you can ever catch up to Shep’s mop of a toupee.
You went to the beach this month and loved it. The spring air is one of your favorite things and you absolutely adore catching some rays in the shade as you and I watch Daddy and Shep in the sun turning more bronzed and beautiful than ever. You had another first just days after turning 4 months and it’s been one of our favorites to date. You laugh! You have the best belly giggly laugh that I’ve ever heard and it brings to much joy to our house. I got the very first one from some neck tickles in your cradle, but since then it seems that Daddy is the one that can get them any time he wants. Something about his goofy faces sets you off and you belly laugh at him until you’re worn out. Sheppard’s tickles get you now and then and he lights up and looks at me to make sure that I saw what happened. It’s pretty darn cute to see.
You have one arm out of your swaddle. Kiddo, you have no idea of my love/hate relationship with the swaddle. Even with that one arm you cried off and on when I put you to bed tonight and I kept having to run in to pop that paci back in. Something about you and those hands heading straight for your mouth – whew! You want so badly to hold your paci while you suck and that clumsy baby hand knocks it all and all heck breaks loose. Apart from those little hiccups, I’m pretty proud of how well you’re sleeping in your crib. Every night before bed we read “On The Night You Were Born” and turn on your lullaby music as I snuggle your bunny love to your face. Sweet baby boy, you love love love your lovies. The blue bunny by your cheek and the giraffe that was Shep’s in your right arm. If we are out and about you always manage to get one of them over your face to make things dark and rest your arms on your knees like a little old man. I have far too many photos of that setup from the pure adorableness that is you.
I love you so much my sweet bald baby. You have made this house such a happy place to be and waking up another hour early has proven one thing to be true……I’m sleepier than ever, but never have I ever had more of a reason to wake up. You and Shep make it all worthwhile and I’m so grateful for you boys.
