HALLOWEEN – A story of 2 astronauts and a lot of candy
Before we moved while we were still at Shep and Dece’s we went to the pumpkin patch and I snapped a few of you two being adorable in your search for the perfect pumpkin. River you were such a little old soul and loved wondering around the field just soaking it all in while Shep went all perfectionist on us and kept putting everything he held back bc it wasn’t perfect. After all that searching, he ended up walking away with a GREEN (and not pretty green) pumpkin like it was a precious stone he found amongst the rubble. Y’all crack me up.
As far as the costume fiasco goes…..
Shep decided to be an astronaut. River, you were all set to be an alien, but in true second child fashion (and forgive me, but we did move on the 14th soooooo) I went to target and found a second best astronaut version so you could be like Shep. Sheppard, Dolly sent you the coolest costume ever with a helmet that has a speaker system, microphone, and button to bring the face shield up. This thing had boot covers and a legit backpack that could’ve held me if I’d tried. Maybe I should’ve put River as the alien in there. Oh my gosh. Stow away alien. Why is it December right now? Don’t get too offended sweet River. Dolly searched high and low for something that came with a helmet and all we were able to find was things for the bigger kids. Next year it’s all you. Cross my heart.
As far as the celebrations went, you boys were feeling it from the get go and we scoured the new street in your red wagon practicing patience (Shep held off….River not so much) and eating more candy in one night than you’d probably had all year. We had Dece and Shep over for BBQ pre-stroll and soaked up every moment watching you boys just enjoy being little. In the madness of moving I didn’t get you guys trick or treat bags so I had you put yours in your helmet Shep, and sweet River you were sent with your Easter basket from Deces that is in the shape of a duck. I know, I know. I’m just glad y’all aren’t old enough for embarrassment just yet while I figure this all out. I’m already one up on Dece. She didn’t let us trick or treat…..But that’s a story for another day.
THANKSGIVING:
I promise that you acting up isn’t a new theme sweet River, but the program at school just wasn’t your year. You got up on stage and looked a bit lost, then spotted me and it was all over. At Mother’s Day Out they don’t let kids go to their parents no matter how said they act, but you were allowed straight to my lap. That should tell you just about how distraught you were. I can’t say I minded since at your age it’s typically just toddlers roaming a stage confused even on a good day. You just wanted a front row seat to watch Shep with me didn’t you?
Shep,
YOU NAILED IT. You stood front row and center with all the cooperative little girls in your class and sang your little heart our like the perfect pilgrim. I just sat there with my jaw dropped bc you have never been one to sing for people and there you were, motions and all while the other boys were rough housing in the back (where I 100% expected you to be by the way – no judgment here). The one year they didn’t film it, but thank goodness Papa was able to film beginning to end like the perfect Grandparent would and we had it on tape to show off and brag to anyone who would watch. I’m just so proud I can’t handle it and I’m even more happy just knowing how brave you are to do something with pride that isn’t necessarily your comfort zone. I know you were just watching me and Daddy wanting to please us and that just melted me into a puddle. A puddle that didn’t fully melt bc well, I was holding your brother 😉 Gosh you two are just my favorites.
I hosted Thanksgiving and there isn’t much to say on that end. A lot of cooking and a massive amount of fun with the family. Uncle Zach taught y’all how to bungee jump from the couch and Aunt Mamie found a way to magically have y’all share the act of putting the Thomas puzzle together. I don’t know how she did it, but I was amazed.
