Augustus Finch | Month 17

May 22, 2025

August! You’re FINALLY obsessed with me and I’m loving every minute! What took you so long?

Truly, you’ve always been a mama’s boy, but with Daddy around so much, you still think he’s the greatest number two (and well, he is pretty great). But now? Now you yell “NO” if he tries to take you from my arms and burrow your head into my shoulder. I’m sure he’s a little offended, but honestly I think he smiles because he knows how happy it makes me. You’re the first baby I have had that I’m not with 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I’m still home with you all day, but working a few hours a day means I blame myself for the moments I miss. The walks I don’t get to take and the park swings I don’t see. The truth is, your brothers were in mother’s day out and away probably the exact same amount, but since my missed moments are when Daddy has you, it makes me feel like I’m away when I shouldn’t be. This? This confusing banter? It’s called mom guilt. Google it 😉 Regardless, you being insistent that no one touch you or take you from me has me glowing and I wanted to say thank you 🙂

Other news? Looks like you’re getting molar number 3 AND I noticed tonight you’re working two new bottom teeth in. This pains me bc the two bottom teeth look is something I’ve gotten attached to. It’s adorable and very “baby” of you and the idea of four teeth down there makes me think you’re steps from college and I don’t like that. I guess they will grow on me  😉

You are so stinking independent lately wanting to be like your brothers. You insist on sitting in their chairs and eating like them, using your own fork, wondering around outside without help, and tackling stairs. Daddy had to lower your crib bc you also invited on getting out on your own and fell (Daddy was with you, so glad I missed that moment – apparently you weren’t phased).

Favorite new things so far have been “let me see your teeth” smiles, you saying “no no no” mocking me, “wind the bobbin up” motions, and saying “no” when anyone asks you a question. We will be riding in the car and mickey mouse says “do you wanna come inside my playhouse?” and we hear “nooooo” and die laughing. You do your head nod that nearly makes you lose your balance and fall when we ask if your food is yummy, but that’s about the only thing that gets a yes from you these days. I love the sass if I’m honest, but a “yes” or “mommy” wouldn’t be the worst thing to throw into the mix next month.

This month I decided to wean you and it was the hardest thing I think I’ve gone through as a mommy so far. I need to start some medication to get better and you weren’t eating often or regularly. I’m pretty sure I was a pacifier at this point. You’ve done well and only yelled at my chest  few times, but I’m so thankful that you’ve accepted a bottle of warm milk when you feel needy and I still get all the snuggles in the world despite the fact that part is over. I think that scared me the most, and the funny thing is, here we are with you more attached to me than ever. That was Jesus, I’m certain of it.
